A second liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo from Qatar has arrived in Pakistan within just three days, strengthening the country’s energy supplies amid rising regional tensions and concerns over potential disruptions in fuel markets.

According to officials, the LNG carrier “Muhzam”, transporting approximately 160,000 cubic metres of gas, has docked at the Pakistan Gas Port Consortium Limited terminal-1 at Port Qasim. The shipment marks another key addition to Pakistan’s energy imports at a time when the government is working to secure fuel supplies for power generation.

Earlier, on May 13, another LNG vessel named “Al-Kharsaah” had arrived at the Engro LNG terminal, making it the second major cargo within a short span. The back-to-back shipments reflect Pakistan’s efforts to maintain stable energy inflows amid uncertainty in global energy markets.

Officials said the timely arrival of LNG is expected to support electricity generation and help meet increasing demand during the summer season, when power consumption typically surges across the country. The added supply is also likely to ease pressure on the national grid and reduce the risk of load management.

The development comes at a time when geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, particularly around Iran and key shipping routes, have raised concerns over global energy security. Pakistan, which relies on imported LNG to meet a significant portion of its energy needs, has been accelerating procurement and logistics arrangements to avoid shortages.

Energy experts believe that consistent LNG imports will play a crucial role in stabilising electricity production and ensuring uninterrupted supply to households and industries. However, they also caution that long-term energy security will depend on pricing stability, contract management, and diversification of energy sources.
